What is Dog Agility . . .Dog Agility is a series of obstacles which must be successfully negotiated within a specified time. There are five different types of obstacles on a standard agility course: jumps, tunnels, contact obstacles, weave poles and tables. The dog and handler team try to complete the set course without any mistakes and within the time limit. A qualifying score is awarded if the course is completed with no errors, which enables the team to move up to the next level of competition.Agility trials are open to all dogs, both purebred and mixed breed (with the exception of AKC sanctioned trials which are open to AKC-registered dogs only). If you are looking for a recreational outlet for your dog, agility can be one of the most fun and rewarding ways to spend quality time with your dog. In the purest sense, agility is a team sport and a wonderful way to build a strong working relationship with your dog. Your dog should have basic obedience training prior to starting agility. The dog should generally be of at least 12 months of age prior to starting serious agility training due to the stress of jumping and flexing on immature, growing bones.
